Mark Wimberley


Mark Wimberley is the assistant coach for volleyball at Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ since 2020. He was the assistant coach at Catawba Valley Community College volleyball program for nine years before coming to Ä¢¹½´«Ã½.

After coaching at the club level with success and playing in recreational leagues for many years, Wimberley brings a winning attitude and a wealth of experience. 

On top of his assistant duties, Wimberley served as the Red Hawks recruiting coordinator. His first-class of recruits at CVCC went undefeated their first two seasons. Building on those stellar seasons, the Red Hawks did not lose a conference game in eight years.

In 2018, Wimberley was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association National Assistant Coach of the Year for two-year colleges. Wimberley earned the honor after helping the Red Hawks achieve several accolades during the 2018 season, including three National Players of the Week, four All-Region players, the 2018 Region Player of the Year, a freshman First-Team All-American and a ninth-place finish at National Junior College Athletic Association Division II tournament in Charleston, West Virginia.

Wimberley received the award from U.S. Women National Volleyball Team Head Coach and three-time gold medalist Karch Kiraly at the 2018 Jostens Coaches Honors Luncheon in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as part of the 2018 AVCA Convention.

Wimberley comes from a diverse background. Previously, he was employed by the North Carolina Forest Service, retiring after 28 years of service.
